Butterflies: Fiction and Fact

Taste buds sited in their dainty feet

The Butterfly Magician is a story. It tells of how autumn's leaves are coloured and stitched to form a host of butterflies which parade their beauty, attend a formal ball, fall asleep and then are wafted to freedom. Notionally, the story is for children aged about 9-12 but, like The Magic Makers, the book is already proving popular with adults - the oldest just into her nineties.

While we are determined to produce something attractive and entertaining, Nicola and I also take great care with the detail. This picture, for example, has a true representation of several different British butterflies and my writing incorporates a reference to the location of a butterfly's taste buds - the feet!
